Imperial Defence Force & City of York Militia Vs Catterick Garrison - Counter Attack

The confused maelstrom of the second British civil war sometimes makes for strange bedfellows. In this scenario the fascist Imperial Defence Force and socialist City of York Militia have temporarily joined forces to destroy an armoured fighting vehicle belonging to the Catterick Garrison.

An initial mortar barrage keeps the army regulars heads down, allowing the fascists to get within spitting distance of a house. Pte Owen with the lewis gun downs a few of the onrushing blackshirts before he and L/Cpl Mead are wounded by a spray of shotgun pellets and quickly captured.

On the other flank Henry catches Pte Cooke unawares and puts a pistol round through his arm.

The Catterick Garrison's Bren carrier rolls onto the battlefield, but the crew are forced to 'button up' As bullets from Tim's scoped rifle whizz by, missing them by inches.

Turn 2: Pte's Everest and Frost open up from the other house, but are soon pinned down in a plethora of rifle fire. George makes a dash forwards to throw a grenade through the doorway, but instead it ricochets off and riddles him with shrapnel.

Two of the facists advance up to the hedgeline overlooking the central house, but the shrapnel flying forces Constable Bracket to keep his head down. The rest of the Imperial Defence Force drift right towards the bren carrier.

The untrained City of York Milita become strung out in a confused advance. Helen takes a long range shot with her rifled grenade, but the explosive is way off target and detonates harmlessly.

Unloading the Bren in the direction of enemy fire, the carrier crew riddle Tim with bullets and force Helen and Henry to hit the deck.

Pte Foggarty brings his rifle up to the window and grazes Constable Grubb, who decides he's done his part and crawls away to cower in the nearest ditch.

Whilst Pte Everest takes an easy shot at Phil in the open, putting a bullet through his thigh.

Turn 3:  The fascist firebase is further compromised as Constable Bracket follows Grubb's lead and abandons the fight.

Leo gathers up some of the CYM and moves forwards through the cover of the trees. But the Bren carrier keeps firing, and Anthony is killed when a bullet passes clean through his eye socket.

Sergeant McGarry leads the rest of the fascists up to the road.

Pte Everest snaps off another round, which clips Helen's shoulder. Having done her best with the rifled grenade she doesn't stick around in her overexposed position and flees the battlefield. Meanwhile Mildred advances up to the side of the house.

Repeated and intense bursts from the carrier inflict minor wounds on Henry and Leo. They bury themselves into the earth and take no further part in the battle.

Turn 4: Giving the order to dash across the road, Sergeant McGarry is struck in the neck as Pte Foggarty lays down suppresing fire.

Mike and Steven make it to the wall, but otherwise things are looking grim for the CYM as their number of effectives plummet and the carrier remains unscathed.

Constable Varley takes aim from the corner of the building. Picking his moment, he fires just as Pte Foggarty rises to the windowsill striking him square in the chest.

Pte Everest boldly charges out of the house, taking cover at the corner of the building. Mildred's first round goes wide and she throws her hands up to surrender as he levels his rifle at her.

Two of the fascists successfully cross the road, lineing themselves up on the hedgerow ready to form a firebase. But within seconds they are blasted by the carrier. As one is shot through the arm the pair prudently decide to limp to the nearest aid station together.

Constable murphy hops the hedge to take cover on the corner of the building. His shotgun blast pins Cpl Price and the buckshot tears into Pte Everest.

The deadly Bren carrier turns it attention back to the City of York Milita. Moments after a round ricochet's off the wall above him, Mike quietly gives the order to withdraw and the last of the militiamen slink from the field.

With too few effectives to seriously threaten the carrier, the Imperial Defence Force also decide to withdraw. Catterick Garrison win!
