Prized Possessions: Anglo Saxons Vs Vikings
Turn 1: In this scenario the Saxons are attempting to escort their wagons across the board, whilst protecting them from the raiding Vikings. The warlord and a unit of archers push on ahead. A unit of warriors and Breton mercenaries guard the right flank, whilst more warriors and spear levy guard the wagons to the rear. The Vikings have weighted their deployment around the ruins on the right, with only a small unit of warriors guarding the gap beyond the marsh on the left.
Turn 2: The Vikings force march their warriors around to the left, whilst keeping their hearth guard to the rear and safely out of bow range. The Saxons continue to plod forward in unison alongside the wagons. The archers dash ahead and get off a volley downing three Bondi behind the marsh, whilst the Bretons race up and fruitlessly lob javelins into the ruin.
Anglo Saxon Turn 3: The Bondi continue to advance, luring the Bretons to smash hastily into them. They sell their lives dearly and their spirits depart for Valhalla, taking five Bretons with them.
Viking Turn 3: More warriors surge forth, invoking their patron Ullr to challenge their Saxon foemen. The Saxons brace for the crash of shields, giving ground one step at a time and culling the rampaging northmen.
Anglo Saxon Turn 4: Another unit of brave fyrdmen counterattack, but one canny Viking pulls back out of reach before he can be slain. The rest of the Saxon force push forward into the gap left of the marsh.
Viking Turn 4: Bondi surge forward out of the rubble to attack the Saxon warriors. Under Heimdall's watchful gaze they prove their worthiness to enter Valhalla, driving back the Saxon defenders of the kingdom.
Saxon Turn 5: The Bretons and bowmen attempt to clear the way with their volleys of arrows and javelins, but two Viking warriors remain blocking the wagons escape route.
Viking Turn 5: The berserkers race across the open ground and heedlessly smash into the levy. Protected by Loki the Saxons cannot take advantage of their fatigue. Fortunately the saxons need no such false idols, there will be no surrender and they're faith in the one true god* is rewarded. Similarly the archers repel an attack by the last two viking warriors.
Turn 6: The Exhausted Berserkers are mercilessly dispatched by repeated volleys of arrows, but the distracted bowmen miss the rapid charge of the remaining hearth guard who succeed in driving off one of the wagons.
The Saxon warlord rallies the levy with a call to arms and their valiant hearts rise to the challenge. The bowmen close ranks and heroically cut down the Viking hearthguard!
The spear armed levy attempt to repeat the feat with the Viking warlord, but succeed only in driving him to exhaustion.
Under cover of these assaults, two wagons dash across the board edge to safety. With most of the pillage gone and most of his men dead, the Viking cheiftan retires to lick his wounds. Anglo Saxons win!
