Desecration: Normans Vs Anglo Saxons
Deployment: For this game we are using the 'Desecration' scenario. Both sides are trying kill their opponents, but the points they can earn are capped. To raise the cap they must desecrate and destroy their opponents objective markers.
The Anglo Saxon's have placed an objective in the central woods and one in each back corner of their deployment zone. They have a unit of levy bowmen in the wood with mounted hearthguard in reserve behind. Stretching right out of the woods and into the rocks they have their warlord and three units of levy spearmen.
The Normans have placed one objective in the central ruins, one behind the ruins, and one behind the hill. Guarding the hill they have their mounted warriors with javelins and a weak unit of levy bowmen. In the ruins they have their crossbow armed warriors backed up by more levy bows, and yet more levy bows over in the woods on the right. In the centre they have a strong unit of 8 mounted hearthguard alongside their warlord.
Norman Turn 1: The Normans manage to roll nothing but commons! Unsure of what to do they pull back their mounted warriors slightly and stack the rest of their dice on combat bonus to await the Saxon attack.
Anglo Saxon Turn 1: The Saxons send forth their wall of levy in Unison to push forward towards the ruin without gaining a fatigue.
Norman Turn 2: The Norman crossbowmen give the Saxons a volley, using Wounded to inflict a fatigue. The milites then crash in with Impact, spending the Saxon fatigue to increase their armour to 6! Though badly bloodied three of these brave Defenders of the Kingdom manage to pull back to the woods.
Anglo Saxon Turn 2: The Levy bowmen draw and loose a storm of arrows, striking the vulnerable horses of the mailed Norman hearthguard. The Valiant Hearts of the Saxon hearthguard are stirred to action, and they charge forward with tightly Closed Ranks to finish off the milites. Meanwhile more levy spear push forward out from the safety of the rocks.
Norman Turn 3: The Normans unleash a devastating volley fire from their crossbowmen and bow armed levy, cutting down the Saxon thegns. The warlord finishes them off, dastardly feigning a Retreat to lure the Saxons in.
Anglo Saxon Turn 3: Undeterred the Saxon fyrd advance in Unison, whilst the cowardly Norman warlord Gallop's away. They whether the storm of crossbow bolts with their Overlapping Shields, cutting down the Norman warriors and driving them from the ruins. Meanwhile a second unit hack through the Norman levy and push them deeper into the woods.
Norman Turn 4: A brief Truce allows the Saxons to catch their breath and lose their fatigue. The Normans boldly Charge into the ruins with their mounted warriors, but the solid cover saves the Saxon fyrdmen from serious casualties.
Anglo Saxon Turn 4: The Levy charge forward once again. They cripple a unit of Norman bowmen to deny them another saga dice, whilst also desecrating the Norman objective in the ruin to raise their victory point cap.
Norman Turn 5: With victory slipping away the Norman warlord launches a final Charge against his Saxon counterpart. The shocking Impact smashes through his enemies defences and the Saxon warlord is slain!
Anglo Saxon Turn 5: His victory however is short lived. The Saxon levy bowmen empty their quivers into the Norman chieftain, slaying his horse out from under him, piercing his mail shirt in a dozen places, until at last he is overcome. Having desecrated a Norman objective to raise their points cap the Saxons have won a resounding victory of 16pts to 10pts!
