Rus Vs Carolingians

Deployment: The Carolingians have two units of warriors guarding the forest on their left flank. In the centre their archers are concealed in the rocky ground, whilst their mounted hearthguard and warlord dominate the open plain on the right. The Rus chieftain and his hearthguard hold the forest in their deployment zone. Either side they have a unit of warriors, and some javelin armed levy lurk by the swamp on the right.

Rus Turn 1: The warlord, hearthguard and warriors drift out to the right, whilst the levy advance along the swamp edge on the left.

Carolingian Turn 1: The Carolingian hearthguard sense an opportunity, and gallop over the open field. Using Illusio they slam home into the levy and slaughter half of them, before retreating as quickly as they came with Ardour.

Rus Turn 2: The remainder of the levy bravely advance and pelt the enemy warlord with javelins. Unfortunately for them his Defensor ability shields him from any damage, leaving the carolingian commander poised to run them down.

Carolingian Turn 2: The carolingian commander readies himself with Fortis to strengthen his own defences and weaken his enemies. A sudden blizzard swirls up in front of the rus levy, forcing him to swerve aside and charge the warriors instead. Hastily he chops two down before retreating once more using Ardour. Meanwhile the bowmen advance into the open, their arrows whistling through the icy wind to find their mark in three more levy.

Turn 3: The rus warlord, now deprived of a saga dice, leads his hearthguard and warriors slowly towards the carolingian lines. The last scraps of the levy are shot down.

Rus Turn 4: Finally within reach, the Rus warlord charges into the carolingian warriors using Blood feud to weaken their closed ranks, and slaughters three of them. The hearthguard follow up into the melee. They fight with the ferocity of (White) wolves, the strength of (Black) bears, and teach these franks to fear the Wrath of the east!

Carolingian Turn 4: The hearthguard gallop once more into the fray. Using Vinco they hack and cut at the rus warlord, who suffers so many wounds even his bodyguard cannot save him, and he is brought low. The archers give the rus hearthguard a volley, but only one of their number is slain.

Turn 5: Seeking vengeance the hearthguard charge in and hack apart four archers. In response the carolignian warlord uses Potentia to cut them all down.

Turn 6: The carolingian hearthguard make a final charge and kill another 4 enemy warriors. With their war leader dead and most of the warband slain the rus survivors retreat to the shelter of the forest, leaving the field to their enemy. Carolingians win!
